Mark began his career with Savage & Associates in 1981. He quickly earned a loyal clientele through his ability to communicate complex subject matter in easily understood, straightforward terms. His expertise in investment strategies, estate planning, retirement planning and business succession planning has allowed him to attain outstanding results for his individual and business clients.
Experience
Mark's successful career has earned him the firm's Top Associate of the Year numerous times, as well as other top awards based on production and contribution. Mark earned membership in the prestigious Million Dollar Round Table his first year in the industry, and has maintained that membership level every year since then, most notably as Top of the Table for more than ten years. Mark is a member of the Forum 400, a national organization that identifies the top 400 financial advisors in the country.
Education
Mark is a 1981 graduate of Bowling Green State University, where he earned a degree in business administration. Bridging his experience to the area’s education initiatives, Mark is a member of the University of Toledo's President's Club and the Bowling Green State University Alumni Association. He also works with The Marketing Advisory Board at Bowling Green State University. Mark also passed the series 7 exam to be licensed to trade securities, government bonds and mutual funds.
Personal
Mark is involved with several non-profit organizations, including his parish, St. Joan of Arc, where he coaches and assists with fundraising. He is also a longstanding supporter of the United Way of Greater Toledo, St. Ursula Academy, St. John's Jesuit High School & Academy, The University of Toledo's President's Club and the BGSU Alumni Association.
He is also an owner or served on the Board of Directors for several businesses unrelated to financial services which include solar energy, medical devices, and commercial real estate, to name a few. He also supports education through his involvement with the Technical and Business Advisory Board to Rocket Ventures, a program for the Regional Growth Partnership. Mark is also a member of the Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce Board of Trustees.
Mark resides in Maumee, Ohio, with his wife, Robin. They have three children: Katie Smigelski-Hire enjoys working with her father at Savage & Associates, after graduating from Ohio University. Keri is a graduate of the Ohio State University who works in sales in Perrysburg. Andrew is a student at the University of Toledo, studying business. Mark and his family love to travel and enjoy spending time at their Devil's Lake cottage in Manitou Beach, Michigan.
